{"id":375,"date":"2016-10-07T15:53:56","date_gmt":"2016-10-07T15:53:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johnfperry.com\/?p=375"},"modified":"2016-10-07T15:53:56","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T15:53:56","slug":"windows-10-changes-previous-versions-are-now-file-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnfperry.com\/?p=375","title":{"rendered":"Windows 10 changes &#8211; &#8220;previous versions&#8221; are now File History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<strong>Surprise?!<\/strong> After Windows 7\u00a0System Restore no longer keeps backup copies of previous versions of your files. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalcitizen.life\/introducing-windows-8-how-backup-data-file-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">File History<\/a> isn\u2019t enabled\u00a0by default, so\u00a0you can\u2019t restore previous versions of files unless make some changes.<\/p>\n<p>Go to File History and <em>add an external drive<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/17128\/windows-8-file-history\">File History<\/a> only backs up copies of files that are in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and the OneDrive files available offline on your PC.
